Exclusive

Exclusive is a continuation of the work created for Members Clubs, but with the focus shifted to the glossy settings of private clubs in California. Mid-century design pieces are placed just so in rooms designed to look like creative engines, making them places of work as much as socialising. In these paintings, exteriors are glancingly present in rarefied interiors. A long, rectangular pond scattered with ornamental stones straddles indoors and out, while a cityscape can be glimpsed in reflections on mirrored architectural elements. Painted from photos shot in the moments before the clubs officially opened to their members, the tension in these works arises from the juxtaposition of inside and out – from the idea of access itself. This series was presented in 2018 at Ahmanson Gallery in Irvine, California.
