Complete Reality

Complete Reality is a further series of paintings inspired by a visit to a film set in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. These staged environments contain the visible traces of crew and production, from video equipment to a discarded plastic water bottle. The presence of such items alludes to the behind-the-scenes viewing perspective of this body of work, which explores the tension between what is real and what is staged. Mirrors create a hovering, mise-en-abyme, a fracturing of perspective that underscores the illusory nature of these interiors. The spaces are technically empty of people, but one might catch a glimpse of a human form reflected in a mirror. By depicting the same room, explored from multiple perspectives, rhythms and contexts, reality is disrupted, enhanced and fragmented. A few works from the series were presented in Paris at Massimo de Carlo Pièce Unique (2024). Complete Reality was shown in full at Anat Ebgi in Los Angeles (2025).
